repository for the occasional perambulatory rumination

an interesting thing happened in my backyard as i worked inside to put a horrid incident of woman’s inhumanity to woman in perspective and ultimately to rest, and i didn’t even notice until just now as i sift, sort, and situate photos . . .

tired of losing sleep and walking daily through utter and neverending dismay, i decide to stitch my way through to resolution:

i struggle to learn the stitches. it’s hard creating something that is sharp, pointy, and aesthetically jarring.

i stitch publicly and watch the woman recoil in disgust when i answer her inquiry with the truth:

i locate an old familiar book on my shelf - Woman’s Inhumanity to Woman by Phyllis Chesler - and re-read. i enjoy a small, hollow comfort when i read about the admonitions and rejections she encountered when she began to talk about her book because after all, misery loves company. at least it’s not just me.

after much research, stitching, writing, and pondering, i begin to suspect/understand why these two women behaved the way they do. it’s still unacceptable behavior, but at least there is some understanding now and with that comes a shift.

the pain still matters, but hurts less. i am beginning to move on, to move forward:

i am finished with the stitched piece. though i still don’t understand in a way that makes sense to my heart, i know more about myself and others; i renew my commitment to rid or at least severely limit my interactions with toxic people; i vow to remain vigilant and be quite sure that i do not directly or indirectly contribute to bullying; and as if all that’s not enough, i can now create a wicked cretan stitch:
