salving my soul (again)
Filed Under Embers, Nature, Postcards, Ruminations
yes, nature is providing salve for my soul of late, helping me bring order to the chaos. today was a travel day, and once arrived, phoebe and i went straightaway for a romp outside - she to bury some tasty morsels for future snack attacks and me to nap on a rock in the sun, serenaded by the sound of falling waters and cooled by the gentle breeze from plants that have been nibbled and bitten yet still bear buds. future blooms to look forward to.

on our walk, i did find another heart-in-the-making rock. once round, this stone now shows signs of being fashioned into a heart as a result of exposure to the elements.

that makes 2 now. stones turning to hearts - rough, ragged, craggly hearts, but hearts nevertheless. appears i have serendipitously started a collection that will decorate the woods with emotional thought candy.

they look like kitty heads! Maybe I just have kitties on the brain - our “rescue child” rolled in spilled gasoline from the lawnmower this evening. Was trying to find a safe cleaning method here online before I thought clearly enough to call Tufts animal emergency services. The vets said to wash his fur with a mild solution of Dawn dish-washing liquid. Did this twice but there’s still a faint odor. Was told to watch carefully and make sure he doesn’t become “mentally inappropriate” as this is the strongest sign (aside from dehydration) he was poisoned by the gasoline before we washed it off.
This is only the short version. It has been QUITE an evening around here…never a dull moment, eh?
by golly, acey, you are right: they do look like kitty heads. too funny - and i needed funny. boy, did i need funny. sorry about your kitty. (bathing a cat - where’s that boy of yours when you need him, eh????) if your kitty is anything like mine, i’ll be real interested in hearing how you determine “mentally inappropriate” behavior when you see it. hoping that eau du gasoline doesn’t give you a headache or spark “mentally inappropriate” behavior on your part. sweet dreams.
Jeanne, I’m glad to know that you’re taking time for yourself. It’s so important to care for ourselves and to join with nature when we feel off-balance. hugs, Fran
and….it’s almost thursday! speaking of future blooms…
fran, you are so right about taking care of ourselves. that’s something i’ve never been particularly good at . . . till now. and you know, i could get used to this.
glennis, thursday, tomorrow: yes. can’t wait. future blooms indeed.
stones turning to hearts.. well that is the metaphor of the day!
or, as acey said, jude: kitties!
