a place for darn near everything
i have thoroughly enjoyed a day of nothing but nesting. been nesting my blog and nesting my nc space that is called (for right now at least) j’underneath.
in j’underneath, i decorated one of the 3 windows. found a most attractive, beguiling fallen stick and mounted it at the top of my window. then i hung pieces of quartz from almost-transparent white ribbon all along the stick. i am now looking for 2 more sticks to hold the quartz and adorn the other 2 windows.

a close-up of the quartz embellishments:

my blog nesting efforts have included a LOT of researching, learning, and refreshing - all so much fun it hardly seems like work at all. i created a page of links. yes, a special playground (a.k.a. page) just for friends and other treasures i find as i romp through the internet. i created a page instead of just listing them down one side of my home page because, well, i love containers.
i mean, seriously, i LOVE containers.
i love those plastic bags that “zip” to close. like them so much better than the old fold-over/flap kind. if you’re not a containeraholic, you may have no idea how absolutely distressing it was as an elementary-school kid to open my lunchbox and find the sandwich on one side of the lunchbox and the plastic bag somewhere else. i swear my sandwich had a metallic taste every time that happened. (the only thing worse was when the plastic bag spit out the sandwich AND my thermos broke.)
i love pocketbooks. i still have my favorites from eras past. i prefer largeish bags with soft sides flexible enough to conform to whatever i might choose on any given outing to tuck inside. for decades, i swear a family of 4 could live comfortably for at least 2 weeks from the contents of my purse.
i love drawer organizers, and i love drawers to hold those drawer organizers. i love those little plastic baskets to keep everything categorized and organized in cabinets and closets. i like columns and tables when working on the computer. i like my file folders (color-coded to reflect areas - more containers, of course - of my life: red for family (think heart and blood); green for business (think money); blue for resources and research (think big as the blue, blue sky); yellow for ideas (think bright like sunshine and lightbulbs); and purple for me/personal (think a color that’s flattering to every age, skin tone, and hair color).
my mother (possibly a closet containeraholic) loves envelopes. large, manilla envelopes. it’s amazing how much stuff that woman can get into an envelope. i once bought her some cute, colorful, shiny bubble-like envelopes, but it wasn’t long before she was back to carrying the plain manilla variety. she loves boxtops, too, from boxes that hold a ream of paper. unlike my great aunt rene, she actually prefers the top over the box.
aunt rene loved boxes. she adored boxes. (napkins, too, but that doesn’t fit into a post about containers.) when she moved to the assisted living facility, it became part of my bi-weekly routine to go get the empty boxes out of her room. (i’d go while she was at the beauty shop) “you just never do know when you’re going to need a good box, darlin’” she used to tell me. (i confess. fire hazard or not, i didn’t take all the boxes from her room - just cleared a path to her bed, that’s all ’cause she was right: you really don’t ever know when you’re going to need a good box.)
when scientists came out with that left brain/right brain stuff, i was a happy, happy girl because that meant brain containers. i was not happy, however, to learn that everybody was supposed to dip predominantly from one side or the other. me, i like to drink from both sides. see, being a creative person, i need my containers to keep everything orderly, organized, and in its place so i have more time to create.
that’s my rationalization, and i’m sticking to it.
